Our Story

The Morgan Family Foundation was founded by Jim and Bernice Morgan in 1993. The goal was simple; support children with dyslexia and increase education opportunities for dyslexic students. Our foundation is committed to providing resources, support, and advocacy for dyslexic students, empowering them to reach their full potential. We believe that every child deserves access to quality education and the opportunity to thrive. Through our various programs and initiatives, we aim to make a lasting impact in the lives of dyslexic children and their families. Join us in our mission to create a brighter future for these exceptional young minds.

Wishes, Dreams & Imagination

During the 2023 “Wishes, Dreams & Imagination” Gala, DTP paid tribute to longtime board member Jim Morgan for his enduring contributions to the organization.

The Jemicy School Paragraphology

Paragraphology® is a color-coded writing system that teaches students how to organize and express their ideas clearly. This multisensory, comprehensive, and scaffolded approach to writing and note-taking is effective for learners of all ages, from children and teens to college students and adults.

Students are guided step by step through a structured writing formula, progressing from basic paragraph writing to a deeper understanding of the five-paragraph essay. Through scaffolding, repetition, and consistent practice, students learn to analyze strong examples, create their own writing, decode prompts, and examine expository texts. This process helps them develop a thorough understanding of the writing process and build confidence as writers.

The generous donation from the Morgan Family Foundation in 2023 enabled Jemicy School to expand the reach of the Paragraphology® program by providing educator training throughout the county, strengthening writing instruction in classrooms, and updating the writing application used to support student learning and implementation of the program.

Bishop Walsh

The Pratt Program is entering its 20th year as the only PreK–12 program for students with dyslexia in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The program currently serves 45 students and is staffed by six full-time, highly trained teachers and a speech therapist. With a longstanding reputation for excellence, the Pratt Program has helped hundreds of students develop strong reading skills and achieve academic success.

The school remains deeply grateful for Jim Morgan’s vision in establishing the program at Bishop Walsh School nearly two decades ago. In 2024, a generous grant from the Morgan Family Foundation further strengthened the program by supporting its expansion into ADHD and executive functioning coaching, allowing Bishop Walsh to provide even more comprehensive support to students with diverse learning needs.
